JumpCloud is the cloud-native directory — replace Active Directory with a platform that manages user identities, SSO, MFA and device MDM from one console, with a free tier for up to 10 users.
Free tier for up to 10 users is genuinely full-featured — not a trial
Replaces Active Directory without on-prem infrastructure or DC maintenance
Cross-OS MDM manages macOS, Windows and Linux from one console
HRIS sync with Rippling, BambooHR, Workday keeps user provisioning automated
JumpCloud is the cloud directory platform that bundles identity (SSO, MFA, lifecycle), device management (Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android) and access control (RADIUS, LDAP, conditional access) under one console. We picked it because it is the most credible way for a 50-500 person business to retire Active Directory without buying Okta + Intune + an MDM separately.
How it works
You provision users in JumpCloud or sync them from HRIS (BambooHR, Workday, Rippling). Each user gets SSO to apps via SAML or OIDC, optional MFA via push, TOTP or WebAuthn keys, and an agent on their laptop that ties the local OS account to the cloud identity. Group-based policies push disk encryption, OS updates, software and configuration to enrolled devices. Conditional access rules can require a managed device, a specific OS posture or a particular network before granting app access.
The same console handles legacy on-prem needs (LDAP for Linux servers, RADIUS for Wi-Fi) which is why hybrid SMBs adopt it.
Pricing reality
JumpCloud is sold as packages. SSO Package starts around $11/user/month, Core Directory at similar pricing, and the Platform bundle (everything: directory, SSO, MDM, MFA, conditional access, RADIUS, LDAP) is roughly $19/user/month annual or $24/user/month monthly. The free tier covers 10 users and 10 devices for the full Platform, which makes evaluation honest. Add-on prices for SaaS Management and Password Manager are listed separately.

What members say
“Cross-OS MDM is the feature gap Okta still has”
“Free tier for 10 users is genuinely the full product”
“Replaced our on-prem Active Directory with zero drama”
For most SMB and mid-market scenarios, yes. JumpCloud provides directory, group policy, RADIUS and LDAP without an on-prem server, and the AD Migration tool moves users and groups across with workstation rebinding.
Does JumpCloud manage iOS and Android?
Yes, both as managed devices via APNs/Apple Business Manager and Android Enterprise. iOS, iPadOS, Android and ChromeOS join Mac, Windows and Linux on the same console.
Can I use my own MFA tokens?
JumpCloud supports its own push MFA, TOTP apps, WebAuthn/FIDO2 security keys (YubiKey, Titan), Duo and conditional access policies that require specific factors per app.
What is included in the free plan?
Up to 10 users and 10 devices on the full Platform: SSO, MFA, MDM for Mac/Windows/Linux/iOS/Android, RADIUS, LDAP, conditional access. It is the most generous free directory tier on the market.
How does JumpCloud compare with Okta?
Okta has the deeper SSO catalogue and more advanced identity governance. JumpCloud bundles MDM and RADIUS that Okta does not, at a fraction of the all-in cost. For mid-market without dedicated IAM staff, JumpCloud wins on simplicity.
Is JumpCloud GDPR and SOC 2 compliant?
Yes. JumpCloud is SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and supports GDPR DPA terms. EU data residency is available.
