Moving from Asana to ClickUp takes most teams 2-3 weeks for a full cutover. The import works but has gaps you need to plan around.
- Export per project first. In Asana go to Project Actions - Export/Print and export each project as CSV. ClickUp imports these via Settings - Import - Asana CSV. Run one test project before doing the full batch.
- Custom fields do not map automatically. Asana custom fields arrive as plain text strings in ClickUp. Budget an hour per project to recreate proper field types - dropdowns, dates, numbers - inside ClickUp custom field settings.
- Task dependencies survive but need auditing. Task IDs change on import and linked dependencies sometimes point to the wrong task. Spot-check every project that uses dependency chains.
- Automations must be rebuilt from scratch. Asana rules have no export format. Before starting, document every active rule across all projects and recreate them in ClickUp Automations one by one.
- Run both tools in parallel for two weeks. Keep Asana active until all recurring project cycles have completed once in ClickUp. Cancel on the next Asana renewal date, not before - you are paying for it anyway.
